How To Dispose Of Your Old Golf Cart Battery

golf cart batteryStandard golf cart batteries are unsuitable for disposal in waste dumps as they contain many environmentally dangerous contaminants. Therefore it is illegal to place them in any container that will put them into the transport system to the dump facilities.

You have choices available to you to dispose of your battery correctly. You can transport it to your local auto parts retailer that recycles batteries. Most retailers that sell this type of battery also have an avenue to recycle them. You can also contact your local government and find out if they have any recycling programs in place for batteries such as yours. Do not put your battery out with your other recyclables to be picked up, it will remain there for you to take back when the other recyclables are gone.

If by chance you are exposed to toxic parts of the battery, you will show symptoms such as stomach problems, loss of appetite, diarrhea, inability to concentrate and lethargy, if you have any of these symptoms you will need to get to the doctor or hospital and let them know about your exposure. Do not leave the battery sitting around on your property, it can leak and contaminate not only the ground, but also the water you drink.

Batteries are the most often recycled product showing about ninety three percent recycling.
