Golf carts are fun to drive, but think twice before cruising around the golf course just to get your kicks. Only let qualified, responsible people drive your rented cart. Be courteous of other drivers and golfers, and stick to paths whenever possible.
Joy-riding around the course can get you in more trouble than you think. If you cause damage to other carts, landscaping, people, or the course you can get in pretty serious trouble and be monetarily responsible for the damage.
Never take a golf cart on the street if it isn’t legal to do so. If you are in doubt, then leave it on the course. Carts that don’t have the proper safety equipment, speed requirements, or other legal mandates can cause big problems for the driver on the street. Just like cars, the cart needs to be registered to drive on the street and you can be held responsible for any damage or accident you may have. If the cart isn’t legal, then your insurance isn’t going to cover you.
Golf carts aren’t toys; they are heavy vehicles capable of causing real damage. Drive them responsibly and don’t take them off the course unless you know it’s safe to do so.
