How to Charge a Golf Cart Battery

With the advent of the powered golf carts, the question of charging a golf cart battery came into the scenario. The electric golf carts run on batteries which are easy to maintain and use. However, you do need to keep in mind the fact that if the electric golf cart’s lead acid batteries are not properly maintained, they can pose serious threats. Charging a golf cart battery becomes easier if you do it on a daily basis. For this you do not need the help of a gas pump. Here are some things that you need to know about your golf cart batteries.

1.    It is extremely necessary to go through the producer’s directions and pay attention to all the security suggestions and cautions.  As some batteries require frequent maintenance, you need to take care of them on a daily basis.  If not, there are chances of the overheated battery bursting out.

2.    Certain accessories are essential while charging a golf cart battery.  Wrench, refined water, pole cleaner, yeast, and petroleum jelly are some of the things you would need while checking and charging the battery.  Always remember to wear gloves, and make sure that these are acid resistant.

3.    Keep a check on the water level in the battery. The water should be adequate enough to envelop the leaded plates. In cases of insufficient amount of water, the brimming battery can bubble over at some point of time during charging.  Carefully look over the batteries for trickles.  Also make sure there are no fissures in the storage place.  Seepage at any point can be detected by the smell of rotten eggs.

4.    The upper portion of the battery should always be cleaned with a mixture of soda and water.  Make sure that the water being used to clean the battery is absolutely clean and distilled, as the presence of any particles can actually damage the battery.  Keep the area around the battery dirt-free and dehydrated.

5.    Be careful to check the cables and posts.  If you find any fractured cables, replace them immediately.  Do not attempt to reattach the cables with any kind of glue. It is preferable to use petroleum jelly instead.

6.    Ensure that all the water vent lids are tight enough.  You should also check to see that all the batteries are connected to the steed.

7.    It is advisable to avoid the use of mineral water in your golf cart battery.

8.    Another major thing that needs to be kept in mind while charging your golf cart battery is that you should need leave them exposed to the natural environment.
Taking care of your golf cart batteries and charging them regularly will go a long way in ensuring a safe golf cart. And a safe golf cart in turn translates into a better and more enjoyable game of golf.
